The Man Behind the Method

M.Div., Alliance Theological Seminary. D.Min. in preaching, Gordon-Conwell.
Has taught pastoral theology at Alliance Theological Seminary.

It walked into his office
A young man came for help. He was hearing voices telling him to kill his father. He was confused. Now and then he tilted his head and growled.
Reimer says a thought came that had never crossed his mind before: this is demonic. By his own account he had no idea what he was doing.

What Jesus did

LUKE 4:18
MARK 1
An unclean spirit silenced in the synagogue.

Balance first
Three Sources of Struggle
The Flesh
The old nature that still pulls after conversion. Pride, lust, anger, fear, control.
ROMANS 7
The World
The systems and values around us that push against God's truth.
ROMANS 12:2
The Devil
A personal enemy who deceives, accuses, and looks for an opening.
1 PETER 5:8
Most battles are a mix. Discernment asks which one we're facing before reaching for a remedy.

“You can't cast out human; you can't medicate, educate, or counsel a demon.”
ROB REIMER · SOUL CARE CONFERENCE NOTES
Some things need repentance. Some need a doctor or a counselor. Some need deliverance. Wisdom is knowing which.
6
The contested part
Demonized, Not Possessed
What Reimer teaches
The New Testament word is “demonized.” Ownership is not in question. A believer belongs to Christ.
The spirit is made alive. The soul is still being cleaned out.
A spirit can hold ground in a room of the soul that has not been surrendered.
Where believers differ
Many hold that the Holy Spirit's indwelling leaves no room for a demon inside a believer.
They read 1 John 4:1 as testing teachers, not believers.
Common ground: the enemy is real, believers are targets, and Christ's authority is final.

Four doors
How Spirits Gain Access
Sin
Unrepented patterns, and bitterness above all.
Abuse & Trauma
Harm done to us. Never the victim's fault, still a wound.
Family Line
Patterns and secrets handed down and never named.
The Occult
Any reach for spiritual power apart from Jesus.
“Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity.” Ephesians 4:26–27

Take away the claim
Breaking the Ground
Sin
Confess and repent. The blood of Christ covers it and the access is broken.
Secrets
Bring them into the light. With God, and with one trusted believer.
Curses
Renounce and break them in the name of Jesus. Spoken words, vows, dedications.
“God cannot heal that which we will not admit.” Rob Reimer

The first six do the heavy lifting
Why Deliverance Comes Last
Identity
takes back the lies about who you are and what you're worth
Repentance
takes back hidden sin and the shame that guards it
Family sin patterns
takes back what was handed down and never named
Forgiveness
takes back bitterness, the foothold of Ephesians 4:27
Healing wounds
takes back the pain the enemy keeps pressing on
Overcoming fears
takes back the fear that drives control and self-protection
By the time an honest person reaches step seven, most of the ground is already gone.

Signs to Weigh
Voices that blaspheme, accuse, or urge harm
Torment that will not lift
Rage far beyond the moment

An open door in the story: occult, deep trauma, family line
Signs are not proof
Each one can have a medical or emotional cause. Test, don't assume.
Thoughts of self-harm are urgent: call or text 988 and see a doctor.
Signs as summarized from Soul Care, chapter 7, and Reimer's interviews
